Each
year, Propertymark Qualifications recognises learners who have
excelled in their studies, pushing themselves to become the highest
performing candidate within their dedicated area. And for the
auctioneering sector last year, that was Andrew Everett. We caught
up with Andrew to see what he has been up to over the last 12
months.
Andrew, you were awarded for being the highest
performing auctioneering candidate last year, how does that make
you feel?
I was ecstatic to hear that I had won the award, it's a great
honour and privilege. I hold the Propertymark Qualifications
Awards in high regard and to be given this recognition is
brilliant. Not only is this a great reward for my efforts but also
a fantastic way of showing my credibility to clients,
colleagues and peers alike.

How has your day-to-day job changed over the last
12 months?
I currently work in land acquisition and disposal for
a large UK house builder. I deal with auctioneers in my
current role, however from more of a management side as opposed to
auctioning land and property myself. Despite not current acting as
an auctioneer, the education I received undertaking the
Propertymark Qualifications Auctioneering Award has been of great
use to me. Gaining a wide knowledge of the property industry is
paramount to excelling.
Can you fill us in on what you have been up to since
the awards last year?
Since last September I have started a masters degree in building
surveying. Alongside this I am also undertaking
my accreditation to be a RICS Chartered Surveyor. I am
very fortunate that I have been permitted to undertake a
masters degree in building surveying, despite not having
an undergraduate degree. The reason for this is due to my industry
experience and qualifications and I have no doubt that
my achievements with Propertymark Qualifications have
enabled me to do this.
Why do you think qualifications are important within
this sector?
I cannot stress enough how important I believe Propertymark
Qualifications are for those working in the industry.
Unlike many other western countries, obtaining a
qualification in property is not mandatory. By undertaking a
qualification with Propertymark Qualifications, it not only helps
in giving property experts the knowledge they need to do a better
job but it also gives us something just
as valuable...credibility.
Credibility is essential for property experts to thrive in
our current, challenging market. These qualifications and
awards are a great way to enhance our credibility; to benefit
ourselves and, for those managers reading this, your entire
teams.

What's next for
you?
I have a couple of busy years ahead as I work to complete an MSc
in Building Surveying, obtain RICS accreditation and all this while
working full time. Once this is completed I think a nice holiday
will be in order!
