Specification
This document outlines what you will need to
know and understand for each unit and what you will be assessed on.
Ensure you cover all learning outcomes to fully prepare for
examinations.
Unit 1: Health and Safety, Security and General Law
(SCOM1)
Understand the general concepts of law relevant to a property
professional. It deals with the historical development of the law
as well as current concepts, relevant statute and common law.
Unit 2: Legal Aspects of Letting and Management
(SRLPM2)
This covers the law specific to the letting and management of
residential property, including law and legislation regarding
granting, administration, financial management and termination of
the various types of residential tenancies.
Unit 3: Residential Property Letting Practice
(SRLPM3)
You will learn how you should carry out the letting of a
residential property, including one's actions when dealing with
landlords & tenants, and the appropriate practices adopted for
taking client's instructions, finding tenants and preparing
appropriate documentation.
Unit 4: Residential Property Management Practice
(SRLPM4)
This unit covers the management aspect of residential property,
including dealing with repair & maintenance, appointing
contractors related to residential properties, problems associated
with managing residential properties and end of tenancy duties.

How long will it take?
Up to 12-18 months to complete, requiring approximately 120
hours of qualification study time in total.
You have 3 years from your date of registration
to achieve all of the required units to complete the qualification.
If you fail to pass all units within this 3 year timescale, you
will need to re-register, but you will be able to carry over
results of any previously achieved units which are still available
for assessment at the time of re-registration.
How will I be assessed?
Each of the 4 units are assessed by
a multiple-choice examination which is
taken on a computer at a UK Pearson Vue test centre.
Each examination consists of 20 multiple-choice questions which
must be answered within 30 minutes and a pass mark of 70% must be
achieved (this equates to 14 out of 20 questions answered
correctly).
What will I get?
This qualification has been Credit Rated for the Scottish Credit
and Qualifications Framework by the Scottish Qualifications
Authority at SCQF Level 6 with 16 SCQF credit points.
This qualification is recognised by ARLA
Propertymark for their membership. It is also recognised
as criterion for the Scottish Letting Agent
Register covering law and practice in Scotland,
which is now a legal requirement for all letting agents managing
properties in Scotland.

Recognised Centres and Apprenticeship
providers
Private training providers deliver learning programmes and the
Propertymark Qualifications exams directly to their own learners
and apprentices. Each organisation who become a Recognised Centre
meets stringent recognition criteria by Propertymark Qualifications
and are subject to ongoing quality assurance.
A number of centres operate nationwide and are happy to take on
individual learners and customers, although they may charge fees
for these services in addition to those for your Propertymark
Qualifications exams. Find a recognised centre.
Examinations
Examinations are held at UK Pearson Vue test centres and
there are roughly 140 test centres across the country.
How much do they cost?
- £50 - when booking
individually
- £80 - when booking two units
together that will be taken back to back on the same

Results &
certification
You will be issued with a results slip from Pearson Vue
immediately after your examination. For failed examinations, the
bottom of the slip will include a scoresheet, highlighting areas in
which you have scored high/low in.
You will be issued with a passed letter once you have achieved
all necessary units of the qualification. This letter will be
posted to your registered postal address, typically the Monday
after you have passed your final examination.
A qualification certificate will be posted to your registered
postal address within three weeks of completing your final
examination. You do not need to apply for the certificate or pay a
further cost as the fee is included within the examination
fees.
