Propertymark Qualifications' Myth Busting Guide

Fake News

Here at Propertymark Qualifications, we often come across common misconceptions about the qualifications we offer. So, we've answered some of the more frequently asked queries we receive from learners, to try and dispel some of the myths.

MYTH: Propertymark Qualifications offer NAEA, ARLA and NAVA exams.

Wrong.

There is no such thing as NAEA or ARLA exams. Propertymark qualifications offer industry recognised qualifications in property and property related disciplines that NAEA Propertymark, ARLA Propertymark and NAVA Propertymark accept as part of their entry requirement for membership.

MYTH: Having a qualification from Propertymark Qualifications automatically enrols you in a membership organisation.

Wrong again.

Achieving a qualification with Propertymark Qualifications does not automatically make you a member of a membership association - you must apply for this separately.

MYTH: Propertymark Qualifications are the same as NAEA or ARLA Propertymark courses.

This is an easy mistake to make, but courses offered by NAEA Propertymark and ARLA Propertymark are not the same as a qualification from Propertymark Qualifications.

Our qualifications are nationally recognised awards for anyone looking to enter the world of sales, lettings or auctioneering, where candidates must undertake distance learning study, sit examinations and achieve a pass in order to receive a certificate. Whilst courses from Propertymark help to build knowledge in specific areas, you do not receive a qualification at the end.

MYTH: I'm a student member of a membership association, therefore I'm enrolled with Propertymark Qualifications.

Becoming a student member of a membership organisation does not automatically enrol you with Propertymark Qualifications. To become a candidate and be registered to undertake a qualification, you will also need to register with Propertymark Qualifications separately

MYTH: MOL (Manchester Open Learning) is the same as Propertymark Qualifications.

MOL LogoWhilst MOL supply distance learning study material, they are not a part of Propertymark Qualifications, nor do they have any part in the examinations. Exams are based on the Qualification Specification, and the study guides from MOL are an aid to your learning.

MYTH: Purchasing study materials from MOL automatically enrols me with Propertymark Qualifications.

This isn't true.

Purchasing study materials from MOL does not automatically enrol you with Propertymark Qualifications. To become enrolled with Propertymark Qualifications, you first need to register as a candidate.

MYTH: Purchasing a training bundle from a membership organisation (such as ARLA Propertymark) automatically enrols me with Propertymark Qualifications.

Again, this isn't true.

Joining a membership organisation does not automatically enrol you with Propertymark Qualifications, you will have to do that separately in order to undertake a qualification.

MYTH: If I update my personal details on my membership association account, they will automatically be updated with Propertymark Qualifications too.

Incorrect.

If personal details are updated on a membership account, this does not update a candidate's account with Propertymark Qualifications. You will need to contact Propertymark Qualifications separately to make any changes to your details as we are a separate company with a separate database.

MYTH: When I've completed my qualification, my employer can keep my certificate.

Your certificate is a legal document and belongs to you, regardless of whether your employer paid for, or made a financial contribution towards your learning.

MYTH: I can use membership organisation post nominals after completing my Propertymark Qualification.

Unfortunately, you cannot do this. Post nominals (those little signatory letters after your name) are not automatically given upon completion of a qualification. This is a benefit that can only be used once you have joined a membership association. However, you can state the title of the qualification you have achieved - make sure to contact Propertymark Qualifications for the correct wording to use.
